CAST Summer 2018 (June 17, 2017- August 6, 2018)

What is CAST?

CAST stands for Creative Arts Service Team. It is an 8-week summer mission team. The members travel together to various Salvation Army locations in the Northeast performing and witnessing about God's love for all. It is a program of The Salvation Army for Salvationists 18 years and older. Selection to the team is by application and, if necessary, audition. The main emphasis each summer is to put together a theatrical production for touring purposes. Secondly, members teach, lead and mentor children at Salvation Army summer camps, community centers and Corps (Churches). That being said, our primary purpose this summer will be to perform GODSPELL as many times, and in as many locations, as possible.

To be chosen to join CAST you must...

  • Be 18 by June 17, 2018
  • Have experience in creative arts - acting, dancing, singing or instrumental
  • Be comfortable living in community
  • Be experienced working with children
  • Demonstrate maturity
  • Be active in the Arts in your Corps, Church , School and/or SA Division
  • Complete and submit the application and video by November 27, 2017

Important Dates

  • November 27, 2017 - Application & Audition Deadline
  • June 17 - Orientation/Rehearsals Begin
  • June 18-29 - Rehearsals (THQ West Nyack, NY)
  • June 29-July 27 - Touring and Teaching (Eastern Territory Locations)
  • July 27-August 3  - OOB Pier Ministry (Old Orchard Beach, ME)
  • August 4-11 - TAM Conservatory (CAST encouraged to attend)
  • August 6 - CAST Officially Ends (after Conservatory performance)


CAST 2018 will be performing GODSPELL featuring a live band!   This is in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the first CAST production of GODSPELL in 2008.  We will be doing the Godspell 2012 updated version – “a masterful retelling of the original sensation, injected with contemporary references and dazzling new arrangements.”


Godspell is a musical, composed by Stephen Schwartz with the spoken parts by John-Michael Tebelak. The show features a comedic troupe of eccentric players who team up with Jesus to teach his lessons through parables, games, and tomfoolery.

  2. John the Baptist / Judas (Lead, Baritone)
  3. Ensemble of 8 to cover additional roles


Band will include bass, drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar & keyboard


Musician Audition
If you are applying to be a part of the band please submit your application and we will be in touch with further information.

Performer Audition
If you are auditioning to be a part of the onstage cast, record a video audition of yourself performing the requirements laid out below. All videos should include:
1. A short introduction (include: name, age, corps, and whether you are auditioning for the cast or the band)
2. Two songs chosen from the list below (if auditioning for Jesus or Judas: one required song indicated and one song of your choosing)
3. One side/reading (if Jesus or Judas: see side indicated)

Every applicant needs to submit a videotaped recording (phone recording is fine). Please submit it as an unlisted YouTube link to by November 27, 2017.

If you are auditioning for Jesus please perform the side for Jesus as well as "God Save the People" as one of your TWO songs
If you are auditioning for Judas/John the Baptist please perform the side for Judas/John the Baptist as well as "All for the Best" as one of your TWO songs.
If you are auditioning for any character other than Jesus or Judas/John the Baptist please perform one of the sides for Ensemble as well as TWO songs of your choice.

Please read the following. Should you be accepted to the CAST 2018 you will be asked to adhere to this agreement and to sign it in the presence of a witness. If you do not believe you can agree to what is being asked please reconsider applying at this time.
If selected to CAST:

1. I will be present and on time for all orientation, rehearsals and performances.
2. I will work with the members of the CAST Team to avoid disagreements and to always resolve conflict as quickly and peacefully as possible.
3. I will satisfy at personal cost all requirements relating to transportation to and from New York City area.
4. I will adhere to all health/immunization guidelines (a health exam is required for all those selected) which may apply.
5. I will enter into covenant with fellow team members and fully participate in all mission activities of the team.
6. I will put the ministry and well-being of the team before self.
